We explained at the time that &#8220;<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">Emotional intelligence involves\u00a0Self-awareness,\u00a0Emotional management, Empathy, and Managing Relationships.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">Daniel Goleman, Ph.D., is a psychologist, author, and lecturer whose\u00a01995 book (updated in 2005),\u00a0<em>Emotional Intelligence:\u00a0Why It Can Matter More Than IQ<\/em> (Bantam Books) is\u00a0an international bestseller with more than 5 million copies in print worldwide in 30 languages.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">Goleman argues that <strong>our emotions play a much greater role in thought, decision making and individual success than is commonly acknowledged<\/strong>. He defines &#8220;emotional intelligence&#8221; &#8211; a trait not measured by IQ tests &#8211; as a set of skills, including control of one&#8217;s impulses, self-motivation, empathy and social competence in interpersonal relationships.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">In our <a title=\"http:\/\/emotionalhealth.us\/blog\/?p=595\" href=\"http:\/\/emotionalhealth.us\/blog\/?p=595\" target=\"_self\">most recent blog post<\/a>, we shared about a new study from the field of neuroscience that relates to moods and perception.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">The connection between neuroscience and emotions has been studied by Daniel Goleman whose book,\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13px; color: #666666; font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"><em>Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"> (2006), explains how the rational and emotional work together to shape intelligence, using new information from neuroscience and psychology of the brain.
